This page explains what happens to information when you play 2048 on this site. The short version: the game itself has no accounts, no server and no database — everything about your play stays in your own browser.
What the game stores on your device
The game saves a small amount of data to your browser’s localStorage so
that closing the tab does not lose your progress:
- Your current board, score and undo history.
- Your best score for each board size.
- Your settings: board size, theme and whether sound is on.
This data never leaves your device and is never transmitted to us — there is no server to transmit it to. Clearing your browser’s site data for this domain deletes all of it permanently. Using a private or incognito window means it is discarded when you close the window.
What we do not collect
- No accounts, sign-ups, email addresses or passwords.
- No cookies of our own, and no visitor profiling or behavioural tracking.
- No selling or sharing of personal information.
Site analytics
To learn which pages are read and which board sizes and editions people enjoy, the site uses Vercel Web Analytics, provided by our hosting company, Vercel Inc. It counts page views and records broad information about each visit, such as the page visited, the referring site, the country, and the browser, operating system and device type. It does not use cookies, and it does not follow you across other websites or build a profile of you; visits are counted without storing a persistent identifier on your device. We use the totals to decide what to improve and for no other purpose.
Server logs
The hosting provider that serves these files keeps standard web-server logs, which typically include the IP address, browser user agent, requested URL and timestamp of each request. These are generated by the host for security and reliability purposes and are retained under that provider’s own policy. We do not use them to build a profile of you.
Advertising
This site is free to play and is funded by advertising. We use Google AdSense, a third-party advertising service provided by Google LLC, to display ads.
- Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this and other sites on the internet.
- Third-party vendors and ad networks may also serve ads on this site and may use their own cookies, web beacons or similar technologies to measure ad performance.
- These cookies may be used for ad selection, delivery, frequency capping, fraud prevention and measurement. We do not have access to, and do not control, the information those third parties collect.
Your choices
- You can review or turn off personalised advertising from Google at Google My Ad Center.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising from many other vendors at aboutads.info or Your Online Choices.
- Google explains what it collects from sites using its services in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
- Your browser’s own settings can block or delete cookies for this site at any time. The game keeps working normally with cookies blocked.
Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland
If you are in one of these regions, a consent message is shown before personalised ads are served, and you can choose non-personalised ads instead. You can change that choice at any time by clearing this site’s cookies and reloading the page. Non-personalised ads still use cookies for frequency capping, aggregated reporting and fraud prevention.
Visitors in California
We do not sell personal information as that term is defined by the CCPA. Advertising partners may process identifiers such as cookie IDs for the purposes described above; the opt-out links above apply.
The contact form
If you write to us through the contact page, the message you type is sent to the person who runs this site. It is delivered by email through an email-delivery service, Resend, acting on our behalf, and is used only to read and act on your message. The form does not ask for your name or email address, and the site does not keep a copy of messages in a database. Please do not include passwords or other sensitive information.
Children
This is a general-audience puzzle game and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
